During a recent performance at her Las Vegas residency, Grammy-winner Adele encountered what she believed to be a derogatory comment about LGBTQ+ Pride Month, prompting a strong rebuke from the singer. The incident unfolded as Adele was engaging with the audience between songs.

“What was that? Did you just say ‘Pride sucks?'” Adele questioned from her piano bench, addressing a shout from the crowd. As the audience supported her, she firmly continued, “Did you come to my f—ing show and just say that Pride sucks? Are you f—ing stupid? Don’t be so f—ing ridiculous. If you have nothing nice to say, shut up, alright?” This emphatic response was captured in fan-recorded footage.

However, it appears there was a misunderstanding. A fan clarified on the social platform X that the comment in question was actually “Work sucks,” not “Pride sucks.” This correction was supported by a video showing the moment the misunderstanding occurred.

Despite the mix-up, Adele’s readiness to defend Pride Month was evident. Later in the concert, she acknowledged the start of Pride Month with warmth, except for the misidentified heckler. “Happy Pride,” she announced, pointing in the direction of the individual, “Not to you, though.”

This is not the first time Adele has not hesitated to address disturbances during her shows. Her current series, “Weekends With Adele,” which began in November 2022 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, has featured several such moments. From halting her performance to criticizing fans throwing objects on stage to defending a young fan from a security guard, Adele consistently shows that she does not shy away from speaking her mind.

Beyond addressing disruptions, Adele often shares personal anecdotes and opinions, such as her support for the queer community. This was poignantly demonstrated in 2016 when she dedicated a show to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting, referring to the LGBTQ+ community as her “soulmates since I was really young.”

Adele’s residency in Las Vegas is set to continue through November 2024, with additional performances scheduled in Munich, Germany, in August. These moments of interaction, whether light-hearted or serious, highlight her commitment to her values and her audience.
