He normally co-hosts BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent every week from Monday to Wednesday. However, Jon Kay was nowhere to be found on Monday morning (November 7), implying that the BBC was in for yet another presenter shake-up.

BBC viewers have grown accustomed to tuning in to their favorite morning show and seeing Jon light up their screens from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. every day. They were in for a big surprise, however, when the jolly TV star vanished from the studio and was replaced by one of his co-stars at the start of this week.

Instead, Sally was joined by Ben Thompson, a stand-in presenter who frequently fills in for male hosts who are unable to anchor the show. The pair grilled Conservative MP Grant Shapps, the Business Secretary, on the expletive-laden texts sent by Gavin Williamson to a colleague during the busy politics-filled program.

It’s unclear why Jon had to miss the show, but it comes after a week of presenter changes at the end of October. Sally was away from the sofa at the start of the week when Rishi Sunak was appointed Prime Minister, so Victoria Fritz took her place.

Naga Munchetty did not appear for her regular Thursday to Sunday slots, which she usually co-hosts with Charlie Stayt. After hosting the first two days of the week, Jon was forced to miss one of his shows last Wednesday (November 2).

Ben had been called in to fill in for him at the time, so it appears that November is going to be a busy month for the relief host. Kay was an extra presenter on Breakfast before it was announced in July that he would be taking over for previous host Dan Walker. Dan left BBC Breakfast after six years to become a host of Channel 5’s news show 5 News.
