The celebrity couple paid $16.5 million for the 31.8-acre property in 2002, but after it sat on the market for three years, they sold it for almost $6 million less.

Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, a powerhouse duo of singers and songwriters, have finally sold their expansive mansion in New Canaan, Connecticut, albeit at a substantial loss.

According to property records, the two paid $16.5 million for the 31.8-acre property in 2002 from the estate of philanthropist and financier Charles A. Dana Jr., who had held it for nearly 50 years.

The estate was first offered in April 2019 for $13.9 million by Mr. Simon, 80, and Ms. Brickell, 56, whose musical career has spanned six decades, beginning with Simon and Garfunkel. In November 2020, the price was lowered to $11.9 million.

As per Mansionglobal, the property was put back on the market for $12 million in March 2021 after switching brokerages. According to listing documents, it sold last Friday for $10.8 million.

The purchase has not yet been recorded in the property records. Mansion Global was unable to identify the buyer.

According to the most recent listing with Taylor Tait and Libby Mattson of Houlihan Lawrence, the enormous English country-style estate is totally fenced to create a private sanctuary filled with open rolling scenery, woods pathways, brooks, natural ponds, and waterfalls.

They declined to comment on the sale.

According to the description, there are two homes on the site with a combined 8,811 square feet of living area, six bedrooms, and eleven bathrooms.

The main mansion, created in 1938 by architect Harold R. Sleeper, has hand-crafted millwork, fireplaces, high ceilings, and large windows. Formal living and dining areas have terraces, gardens, and a pool that are accessible.

According to the listing, a separate cottage provides an extra 1,483 square feet of living space with its own private driveway, parking, and garage.

The author of several well-known songs, including “The Sound of Silence,” “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” and others, Mr. Simon, who has received 16 Grammy awards, could not be reached for comment right away. A reply was requested of Ms. Brickell, an alternative rock singer best known for her 1988 first album “Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars,” but she did not react in time for the article to be published. They have been married since 1992 and have three children together.

New Canaan is about 45 miles north of Manhattan. According to figures from Douglas Elliman, the median sales price of single-family houses there was $1.7 million in the second quarter.
